How long until Psycho gets the axe, Alonso’s wonder strike, and Inter stake their claim on the Scudetto

Man City effectively lightened their workload for the long season ahead by seeing themselves out of the Carling Cup competition, losing to League 1 side Chesterfield. Several questions beg to be asked by City supporters, namely, what the hell is up with Stuart Pearce? Fourth from bottom in the Prem, and having lost 13 of their last 16 put Psycho into the lame-duck manager status, and you have to wonder if City haven’t made coaching change because there’s nobody else out there? How long until Joey Barton demands to move?

Xabi Alonso repeats last year’s long-ranger, and Liverpool finally get on target For those of you who didn’t see it, expect to see replays of this for the next few days. Steve Harper, in for the injured Shay Given, had a rough day.

Hernan Crespo did all the work himself in the 44th minute to hand Inter Milan a victory over AS Roma, a team they beat in the Italian Supercup before the season began. Patrick Vieira collected his second red card in the last two weeks, but an exciting end-to-end match that pitted the two top contenders for the Scudetto should have seen more goals, but Roberto Mancini’s gotta be relieved for now.
