Figo Can Still Get It Done

Luis Figo scored the winner in extra time to cap a three goal rally by Inter Milan and claim the Italian Super Cup with a 4-3 victory over AS Roma on Saturday. The game usually pits the previous season's Serie A champions against the Italian Cup winner, but due to the match-fixing scandal, Inter won both last year, so Roma qualified as the runner-up in the two competitions. Figo scored from 25 yards, bending a free kick over the Roma wall and into the far corner past Brazilian goalkeeper Doni.

Since moving to Inter from Real Madrid in August 2005, Figo has resurrected his career. He's helped Inter (they got a little help from Juve as well) collect the 2005/06 Serie A trophy, the 2006 Italian Cup, and the last two Italian Super Cups. I thought that he had a better than average World Cup, possibly running out of gas and not being very influential towards the end of the tournament. With so much firepower added to the Inter squad this season, this could be a season to remember for Figo and Inter as he enters the last season of his contract. They should be considered serious contenders domestically as well as in the Champions League.
