It's been a year for SMiA

August marks the first anniversary of SMiA and we'd like to thank anyone who's taken the time to read, ridicule, comment on, or print out our blog to use as toilet paper throughout the last twelve months.

I recall a time when AC and I embarked on our quest to not necessarily inform and expand the soccer-loving fan base, but more so utilize this site as an outlet for the various musings that populate our brains. Have you ever spoken passionately about a player's abilities while playing a particular goal in slow motion, frame by frame, as your significant other looks at you with a mixture of confusion and contempt? Have you ever found yourself sketching potential formations while stuck in a conference call? Or perhaps terrifying a child wearing a replica jersey by asking him in depth questions about new additions to his team's back line?

And, that's why we do what we do . . . because nobody else will listen.

Yours is one of the few soccer sites I visit even when your topics don't intersect with my own teams. You make it fun to read about the game. (Plus AC shares my Dhorasoo fascination. How many people in the world can I say that about? He seems a decent sort despite being a Coug.)

Don't ever stop.

Yes, I have done this! Last year at an elementary school chess tournament (!!) I found myself quizzing a third-grader on his knowledge of Lilian Thuram because he was wearing a Ronaldinho Barca jersey. I think he was both fascinated and terrified.

You mean I'm really not the only one who does this?

I was lucky enough to stay at a hotel in Boise that was taken over by children attending a soccer camp. Listening to some kids check out goals on YouTube on the computer in the lobby, I struck up a conversation with them, and received nothing but blank stares. Kind of made me feel like the guy w/the van that offers kids free candy . . .

Kudos to you for not only quizzing third-graders, but the chess-loving kind.

Congratulations! You guys write very thoughtfully and I always enjoy reading your opinions.

I've been doing that in an alarming number of law classes this off season.
