Time To Move Out

Sometimes there are instances of too much too soon. The excellent Tim Vickery lays out a sad example of this, Gabriel Paletta's unhappy stint at Liverpool. Money quote:
In a type of football much faster than anything he [Paletta] has seen before he is taking up an unaccustomed position - one which all the while threatens to expose his lack of mobility. It is no wonder he has had problems. He has taken a leap which represents a dangerous risk at this stage in his career.
Of course this happens all the time, and to players from other parts of the world as well. The world of soccer is littered with examples of teenagers from Africa, Asia, Oceania, and North America going to Europe and never quite fulfilling their potential. Most of the time, the answer can be the case of not enough high level experience to warrant the move in the first place.

As for Paletta, Vickery notes in his article that Spanish side Gimnastic de Tarragona are interested in the Argentine defender. Whether it be on loan or an outright move, anything is better than sitting in the stands and watching the game pass you by.

I feel really bad for guys like Paletta. He's getting a lot of stick after the Arsenal game, but for God's sake the more experienced members of Liverpool's backline didn't cover themselves in glory either. It seems to be a case of 'let's round on the young South American for not adapting magically after playing all of 4 or 5 games this season'. The same goes for Tevezcherano.

Look at Drogba now, and look at him in his previous two seasons in the Premiership. It takes a long, long time to adapt. Poor Sheva is a good current example, and I think even Morientes would have come good eventually. But no one has that much patience, do they?

I agree with you about the Arsenal game; Carragher was pretty poor, as he has been most of the season
