Good Work If You Can Get It

What exactly will South Africa get for their money? Will they even make it into the second round? I think we should look back at Carlos Alberto Parreira's results when coaching non-Brazil teams at the World Cup to get an idea of what South Africa has to look forward to.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see South Africa do well at their own tournament and reach the knock-out stages. History is on their side as well, every host nation having made it to at least the second round. Perreira doesn't instill too much confidence though. I guess time will tell.

Perreira's World Cup Results (Not including Brazil in 1994 and 2006)

1982 FIFA World Cup
Czechoslovakia 1 - 1 Kuwait
France 4 - 1 Kuwait
England 1 - 0 Kuwait

1990 FIFA World Cup
Colombia 2 - 0 United Arab Emirates
United Arab Emirates 1 - 5 West Germany
Yugoslavia 4 - 1 United Arab Emirates

1998 FIFA World Cup (Note: Perrriera was fired after the first two games)
Saudi Arabia 0 - 1 Denmark
France 4 - 0 Saudi Arabia
South Africa 2 - 2 Saudi Arabia
