Bad luck at Villareal?

Villareal was dealt another blow this week when French winger Robert Pires tore the cruciate ligament in his left knee against Cadiz in the pre-season Ramon de Carranza tournament. The 32-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur-killer, moved from Arsenal to the Yellow Submarine on a free transfer after the club allowed his contract to expire, and will be unavailable for six months.

Argentine international defender Gonzalo Rodriguez suffered the same injury on his right knee during a game against Real Madrid on Saturday and will be out an estimated seven months. Club president Fernando Roig said the La Liga side will be seeking replacements for the injured players.
