The Grab: 01.15

Talk about the best thing that could have happened to Paul Le Guen after his exit from Ibrox. The ex-PSG midfielder takes over on Monday from beleaguered Guy Lacombe at Paris Saint-Germain. PSG has had some rough times, both on and off the pitch, so bad that the Parc des Princes rarely fills up for matches and doubles as sort of a points-dispenser for visiting sides. Perhaps taking a year off (before taking over Rangers) didn't actually help Le Guen, and being back in Paris must be heaven for the Frenchman. [IHT, ESPN Soccernet]

The man who re-joins Gers after Le Guen's unsuccessful time at Ibrox attempts to save a little French face, citing his own issues at Everton. Walter Smith also has to deal with the double-digit points gap that separates Rangers from Celtic, who look to be the most competent side in the SPL. And he's off to a start, with Gers biggest win of the season so far. It looks like if there's anyone (anyone Scottish, that is), WS is the man to do it. [Glasgow Herald, ic Scotland]

Celtic's new vice-captain and former Hearts captain Steven Pressley had a little dig at his old squad, despite being applauded by both sets of fans at Tynecastle. Elvis has to be happy about not only joining the so-far runaway leader of the SPL, but also a squad that's come from behind seven times this season, winning five and drawing two. Kind of gives you a sense of just how crappy the SPL is, outside a handful (or less) of teams every year that dominate. [Glasgow Daily Record]

Becks Watch: The beautiful couple must be pretty chuffed about Fabio Capello's feelings about Becks never again wearing the white of Real Madrid, since there's probably a lot of fake friendships and shopping to be done before the MLS season begins. Really, though, if you're going to take the largest contract in soccer history to come to the US to play, wouldn't it make sense that you'd want to refrain from injuring yourself as you help your team battle for 3rd in La Liga? [BBC Football]

Speaking of Fabio Capello, is there anyone else besides Paul Le Guen a few weeks ago, that is exhibiting a total lack of control over his team as much as Capello? Yes, we know there are a number of fading galacticos that need to be moved out and new blood wouldn't be bad at the Bernabeau, but talk about a top-class gaffer who's fallen into Rodney Dangerfieldism (dude can't get no respect). How long until the Porgugeezer is running the show at Real Madrid? The beauty of the whole "Beckham will not play for Real Madrid for the rest of the season" was followed by an apology for rudely gesturing at fans after the Merengues' 1-0 victory over Zaragoza. Stay classy, Don Fabio [IHT]

"Yay . . . now we can compete with that Emirates team in North London!!!" It looks like the takeover of Liverpool FC by Dubai International Capital is nearly complete. DIC is the investing arm of Dubai Holding, the company of Dubai's ruler. [Guardian Unlimited]
