UEFA revealed their users' Team of 2006, and I have to say that the voters got it mostly right. How can you complain about a side that has a spine of Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro, Steven Gerrard, and Thierry Henry/Samuel Eto'o? It's quite the XI that the voters have chosen, a team that would instill fear in any opposing side.
My only qualm, is the left-back, Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm. While I think that the guy had a breakout performance at the World Cup, is he really the best left-back around. Or even the best one in 2006? I think that Fabio Grosso, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and John Arne Riise (to name but a few) were all better than Lahm last year. If scoring in the World Cup is the tipping point, wasn't Grosso's semifinal tally more impressive than the German's opener against Costa Rica?
