La Bandiera

After over 500 matches on the right side of the lineup, Inter captain Javier Zanetti is as important to the club as ever. Players like Zanetti and Fernando Redondo are the reason why teams like Inter and Real Madrid (back in the day) can be creative and imaginative in the attacking third of the field.

One of Argentina's most beloved players sat down with UEFA's Paolo Menicucci for a short interview that ran last Friday. [UEFA official site]

In other Argentina news:
  • Juan Sebastian Veron gave a telephone interview to TyC Sports channel's Estudio Futbol today and stepped forward to provide leadership during the current crisis that has gripped the domestic game. "With my experience, I need to involve myself for the good of the game and the young guys who are coming up behind me. All I'm looking for is a bit of peace, to live out a soccer Sunday the way my dad did when he played." Veron went on to say that he has recently sought out Diego Maradona: "He's always been one to defend the player in times of crisis and any advice he can pass on would be very important right now. He could be a great help." (In Spanish) [TyC Sports]
  • Hernan Crespo and Julio Cruz (two of six Argentines in the starting XI) teamed up for the first time for Inter yesterday. The good news: the experiment worked, with Crespo getting an early one to put Reggina away and consolidate first place in Italy. The bad news: Cruz hurt his knee and had to limp off before the hour mark. [Channel 4]
