A Share Of The Spoils In Madrid

In today's big La Liga match, Atletico Madrid went to the Santiago Bernabeu and were unlucky not to leave with the three points against Real Madrid. Atletico substitute Sergio Aguero had the goal in his sights in the dying minutes but decided to get cute and over hit his lob attempt. This more or less leaves the two Madrid teams where they were last week, Real two points and Atletico three points behind leaders Barcelona and Valencia. Both Mediterranean teams overwhelmed their competition this week to become joint leaders.

Valencia continues their rich vein of form, toping Group D in the UEFA Champions League as well as scoring ten goals through five rounds of domestic fixtures.

After the international break, La Liga returns on Sunday October 15th with only one standout match. But oh does it look good, FC Sevilla travel to Barcelona to take on the defending champs. It'll be a rematch of the UEFA Super Cup that saw Sevilla run out 3-0 winners in August. This time around, look for a little more bite out of Barca. After being humiliated in Monaco, my bet is that Frank Rijkaard will have his men up for this one.

Marquez did say the players wanted a little revenge against Sevilla. However, Barca are not going to get it playing like they are now. But if they pick themselves up a win should be possible. I'd be happy with a draw though, especially considering how Rijkaard might want to save some of his players' energy for the midweek game at Stamford Bridge.
