Diego Maradonna looks on as his Boca Juniors play out a 0-0 draw with Godoy Cruz de Mendoza. Ricardo La Volpe's first game in charge came after an emotionally draining midweek game in Brazil. On top of everything else, before the game, the club had an official sendoff for Alfio Basile. Click on the link to see what Basile was able to do at Boca in just fourteen months, simply amazing. And quite a legacy that La Volpe has to live up to.
While I doubt that many Boca supporters would blamed the former Mexican boss for today's result, I will be interested to see the post-match reactions next week if the club don't get maximum points against Nueva Chicago.
While Boca dealt with their hangover, San Lorenzo and River Plate took advantage. They both won away from home, Oscar Ruggeri's men against Independiente and Daniel Passarella's squad against Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy (arguably the best club name in the world). Today's results propelled San Lorenzo and River joint leaders with Boca. Of course Boca still has a suspended game to finish, technically leaving them with a game in hand.
For those with Fox Soccer Channel, Boca's crosstown trip to Nueva Chicago will be shown live on Sunday at 3pm Eastern.
