The Road to Austria and Switzerland

Just when you stopped wishing the World Cup was every year (or relieved that it’s finally over), the national sides of Europe begin their quest for silverware in the Euro 2008 tournament.

Qualifying takes place over 15 months, and began on August 16th, with Georgia walloping the Faroe Islands 6-0, Macedonia beating Estonia 1-0 and a 0-0 draw between Kazakhstan and Belgium.

They kick off again, on September 2 and 6, with fifty teams fighting for one of the 14 places in the Euro 2008 Finals.

The fifty teams are divided into six groups of seven and one group of eight, with the top two teams of each group qualifying for the final tournament, held in June of 2008, in Austria and Switzerland. Check out how it all works.
